Library Resources
Social work programs in Indonesia have very limited library resources. Most libraries have no systematic way to update their collection and syllabi rely on information from the 1970s and 80s.
BPSW worked with social work education programs to identify library development areas in immediate need of upgrading and we started acquiring and distributing texts.
Since 2006, BPSW facilitated the donation and shipping to social work education libraries in Indonesia of over 100 recently published textbooks from a variety of organizations in the US including Hunter College School of Social Work and the National Resource Center for Family Centered Practice and Permanency Planning.
In addition, five subscriptions to English-language social work journals have been donated to STISIP Widuri in Jakarta.
BPSW helped to rebuild the social work library collection of the Christian University of the Moluccas (UKIM), which was destroyed by fire during the 2004 renewed internal conflict.
This university has the only social work program in this area of Indonesia, and by 2006 BPSW had sent over 125 textbooks to UKIM.
BPSW also sent over 50 volumes to the State Islamic Institute in Aceh to support the launching of the first social work education program in Aceh.
